In brief, what is it?

The Top Habitation fire insurance covers all damages caused by fire, explosion, lightning, thunderstorm, natural disasters, water and electricity in and around your home.

It also covers your rental liability in case of damage to your holiday home(s) or the accommodation you rent for your kids.

Depending whether you are a tenant, owner, or leaser, your insurance combines various coverage: building, contents, theft and legal protection.

Top Habitation insurance is a product offered through AG Assurances and distributed by Hello bank!, BNP Paribas Fortis' mobile brand.
Top Habitation is a one-year contract under Belgian law renewable every year (except if one of the parties objects at least three months before the end of the contract).

Which are the main risks covered?

  • Coverage for damages caused to the building and/or contents, including fire, water damage, electricity, storms, hail, snow and ice pressure, glass breakage and natural disasters. *
  • Coverage for material and bodily damages caused by your goods to third parties. *
  • Payment of damages to the buildings in the event of vandalism, malice or the intrusion of thieves, as well as theft of a part of the building, such as solar panels for instance. *
  • 24-hour assistance in the event of a loss.

Which are the main non-covered risks?

  • Loss intentionally caused by the insured person.
  • Damages intentionally caused to motor vehicles.
  • Damages caused to an abandoned building or an edifice destined for demolition.
  • Damages directly incurred by non-compliance to an obligation imposed by the contract (for example, protection of insured goods).

For who?

  • Your Top Habitation insurance policy combines the following covers: building, content, theft and legal protection.

    For example, in the event of damage, it covers:

    • Damages to the building itself and its service quarters (such as a garage for instance) for which you are responsible. For other types of damages to the building, your landlord's insurance will provide cover.
    • The contents of your home, such as all personal (furniture, clothing, TV...) and professional belongings (lap-top, smart phone, good or equipment brought back home but used to exercise a profession pursued elsewhere).

    You also benefit from legal protection for non-covered risks. This is for defending your interests and paying the fees of a counsel if you are involved in a dispute with the person responsible for the damage. You also get legal assistance for disputes with your insurer, if you do not agree with the amounts defined by the claims adjuster for example.

You also benefit from legal protection for non-covered risks. This is for defending your interests and paying the fees of a counsel if you are involved in a dispute with the person responsible for the damage.

    You also get legal assistance for disputes with your insurer, if you do not agree with the amounts defined by the claims adjuster for example. The building portion of your apartment is already covered by the co-ownership insurance policy.

  • Your Top Habitation insurance combines the following coverage: content and legal protection.

    For example, in the event of damage, it covers:

    • Damages to the building itself and its service quarters (such as a garage for instance).

    You also benefit from legal protection for non-covered risks. This is for defending your interests and paying the fees of a counsel if you are involved in a dispute with the person responsible for the damage. You also get legal assistance for disputes with an online rental platform such as Airbnb or with your insurer, if you do not agree with the amounts defined by the claims adjuster for example.

    Your tenant must take charge of her/his rental liability, contents and theft in a separate insurance contract.

  • We offer legal protection and construction coverage for the entire construction period of your future home. What’s more, the 6 first months of the construction coverage are free! Please note that some of the guarantees of Top Habitation are not applicable to homes under construction. Contact the Hello team for more information.

    Once the building is completed, you will have to adapt your insurance contract according to your situation. Are you moving in? Purchase a contents and theft coverage if you don’t have one yet. Are you renting out your place? The tenant must subscribe to an insurance policy for the contents, theft and must obtain rental liability insurance.

What happens in the event of a claim?

In the event of a covered claim, call our free 24/7-telephone number to obtain the assistance of a professional who will offer two possibilities after a claim:

  • You receive financial compensation and organise the repairs yourself.

    In most cases, we organise a remote video surveying of the damages or losses suffered with you to assess a claim, which means that you no longer have to wait for the visit of a claims adjuster.

  • We organise and finance the repairs. In addition, you have a six-months guarantee on the works/repairs carried out.
